World Communion SATURDAY

Potluck dinner and worship, including communion.

Music will be provided by a jazz trio, and the scripture reading about preparing for and celebrating Passover (an evening meal) will give the focus and shape of our evening together.

Bring a dish to share, if you're able. This season's theme is "In God We Trust" and we trust that God will provide enough through our sharing!

In addition to the usual things you expect from a dinner-worship service (food, conversation, music, scripture, prayer, offering, communion, hymns), we will also receive the Peace and Global Witness Offering, a special offering normally received on World Communion Sunday, and used for ministries of peacemaking around the world and here at home. Our portion will be donated to FACE-IT, and the portion that goes to the denomination supports a variety of missions and projects making and keeping peace.

There will be NO Sunday morning worship service on October 2.

TOP: Normal

For the last night of the TOP season, we'll be pondering just what is "normal" anyway? Who gets to decide? How does our understanding of scripture and our faith tradition inform what we think of as in- and out-of-bounds? Should give us plenty to think about until next summer!

Theology Thursdays On the Patio take place at Emmett's (on Brockway in downtown Palatine), and are an evening of learning and fellowship through conversation. Part small-group, part Bible Study, part fun, TOP is a great way to go deeper as we think about how our faith affects our lives. Food and beverages are available for all budgets, and we always learn something!

TOP: Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

What do you do to celebrate? What do you consider cause for celebration? We'll be talking about rites of passage, traditions, and just good old fashioned parties...and what God has to do with it.

Feast on Faith: Taste the World

The first Sunday in October is World Communion Sunday--a day we remember that God's great family stretches across bounds of geography. We'll celebrate by getting a little taste of God's goodness through different kinds of food!

You are invited to bring a food from your ethnic heritage so we can all get a taste. Whether you came here recently, or your family sailed over on the Mayflower, reach back to your ancestral homeland for something delicious to share.

After dinner (which starts at 5), we'll be studying just what makes God's covenant community possible, even across time and space, language and culture. How does the covenant work? What does it mean to be God's treasured possession? How do we live differently because we follow this Way?

Nursery will be provided, and there are programs for children, youth group, and adults. Bring a friend!

Feast On Faith: Peace, Love, and Apple Pie

A piece of pie...a piece of pizza...a piece of chicken...so many pieces! Join us for an evening of dinner and learning, where we put the pieces together for peace.

Dinner will be an appetizer buffet, served at 5pm. Ending with pie, of course! After we're fed around the dinner table, we'll gather around to study the story of Joseph, and ponder our role in God's dreams for the world.

As usual, nursery will be provided, and there will be programs for children, youth group, and adults. We can promise it'll be delicious and nourishing--for body and soul!

No need to bring anything--just yourself, and maybe a friend!

Feast On Faith--Kick Off Tailgating Party

Pull up your car, bring a chair, and enjoy an evening of tailgating with your church family and friends!

Hotdogs/buns/condiments and lemonade will be provided. Feel free to bring anything else (non-alcoholic) you might enjoy--for yourself or to share. We'll eat, maybe play some games, and kick off the new year right!

After dinner, we'll be fed by the word, as we gather around the scripture together. In addition to adult Bible study, there will be a program for children, and the youth group will meet.

See you there!
